From the centre of the town of St. Johann in Tirol, hike past the front of Dean Parish Church, heading for the hamlet of Oberhofen. At Wieshofer bridge – shortly after the statue of Saint Nepomuk – you turn right, into a side street and eventually get to Achendamm. The first fork in the road to the left, from Achendamm, takes you to the farming hamlets of Oberhofen, with impressive farms of the lower Inn valley lining the route. If you follow the signs to Kalkstein, you will go past a trotting course, then reach the highest hamlets in St. Johann in Tirol. At around 900 m altitude, in the hamlet of Scheffau, the route branches off to the right next to a gate, onto a forest path in the direction of Kalkstein and Adlerspoint.
Head further up over several hairpin bends until the route enters the forest. After two hairpin bends, you reach a fork at around 1,120 m, where you switch left to take the path towards Adlerspoint. Head up on the ridge of the slope and follow the red and white striped signposts through alternating forest and pasture terrain until you reach the mountain saddle beneath Baumooskogel. Head down and right at the fork Baumooskogel and continue to Baumoosalm. From the pasture, a short section of road leads down and then up again to Bruggwirtsalm (1,356 m). Continue following the signposts for Adlerspoint, and walk through the Alpine meadows to the former mountain guesthouse (1,419 m, 3 hours 30 mins from the centre of St. Johann i. T.). Continue on a short section of forest trail before branching off to a path on the left in the direction of Kirchberg.
This path initially leads through mountain pine-dotted terrain, then to open pastures, where you reach the highest point of the stage at around 1,550 metres altitude. The path continues slightly downhill before it soon becomes a meadow path and leads down to Gerstbergalm (1,501 m). Beneath the Alpine meadow, continue straight through a little valley and to Winterstelleralm. The route continues on without any great altitude difference to the mountain saddle above Winterstelleralm on the road down to the Alpine pasture (1,423 m, 1 hour 15 mins from Adlerspoint).
After you have passed Winterstelleralm, follow the forest road to the valley leading to Lindtalalm/St. Ulrich. From Lindtalalm, turn left in the right-hand bend to get to Latschenbad / St. Ulrich. Cross the mountain slope/pasture and continue slightly uphill initially, then down to St. Ulrich am Pillersee.
The hiking trail opens up into the old forest road. Follow this road to the asphalt road (leading to MACK Latschenölbrennerei). Follow the road on the left side for about 100 m before turning onto a meadow trail leading to St. Ulrich am Pillersee. Passing the church, you will reach the town centre and the finishing point of the KAT Walk: the Raiffeisen bank St. Ulrich am Pillersee.
